BASF's Ultramid® Balance helps launch the rear bumper bracket
Time:2020-05-06

· Ultramid®'s low moisture absorption and high temperature resistance ensure that the rear bumper bracket maintains dimensional stability in a humid environment

· Rear bumper brackets made with high-performance material solutions can withstand chemical corrosion caused by melting snow salts

BASF has recently used Ultramid® Balance's innovative polyamide (PA) solution for the production of a new rear bumper bracket (a type of component used to protect the underbody). At present, this product has been used in two models of Mazda 3 and CX-30.

Senior consultant of XX Body Product Development Division said: "The rear bumper bracket must not only face the corrosion of various chemicals on the road such as the snow melting salt used in winter, but also withstand the high temperature of the silencer. Parts made of conventional materials such as acrylic and polyamide show signs of aging and deformation. However, the rear bumper brackets made with BASF ’s Ultramid® Balance high-performance special materials solution are excellent for high heat, oil, most solvents, aqueous solutions and alkalis. Tolerance. In addition, the raw material for the production of this material comes from castor oil, thus providing customers with a more sustainable solution. "

The use of Ultramid® Balance in the rear bumper bracket is another contribution BASF has made to support customers' increasing demand for raw materials based on renewable resources. Ultramid® Balance is very popular in the market, not only because it is based on renewable materials, but also because it has more outstanding performance than ordinary polyamides such as PA6 and PA66.

This innovative material solution contains 30% glass fiber reinforced resin, and uses stabilizers and polymer technology to withstand higher long-term operating temperatures, and chemical resistance is also more prominent. Compared with other polyamides, this material has a lower moisture absorption rate, which can ensure that the rear bumper bracket remains dimensionally stable in a wet environment for a long time.

Bao Leiwei, Global Senior Vice President of BASF Performance Materials Asia Pacific, said: "Different auto parts have different requirements, which mainly depends on the value positioning of the car. To this end, we maintain close cooperation with various auto manufacturers to customize materials to solve The solution meets the specific needs of customers. "

Yamamoto Yu, Director of BASF's Performance Materials Division, said: "We are committed to using our expertise to provide innovative solutions to create higher value for our customers. Both Mazda 3 and CX-30 models have been adopted in their high-performance designs BASF Materials. In the future, we will continue to work closely with customers to meet their changing needs. "
