DSM Stanyl® PA46 creates high temperature resistant, low wear plastic gears for the automotive industry
Time:2019-02-15

The Royal Dutch DSM Group, a global scientific company active in the fields of health, nutrition and materials, its Stanyl® PA46 is a high-temperature, low-wear plastic gear that has been used in actuators for more than 200 million vehicles worldwide, such as electronic festivals. Valve control (ETC) actuators, exhaust gas recirculation systems (EGR), turbines, universal actuator (GPA) actuators and variable intake systems have proven their reliable performance and cost effectiveness.

As the pace of technological development is getting faster and faster, the freedom of design of products has increasingly become the focus of attention in the industrial design field, especially for the automotive industry, especially actuators. Traditional metal gears often fail to meet actuator requirements for design freedom and rapid upgrades. Plastic gears are used more and more widely because of their good design flexibility, light weight, low cost based on one-piece molding, wear resistance, lubrication-free operation and low noise.

The global science company active in health, nutrition and materials, the Royal DSM Group's material solutions have successfully established a leading position in the field of plastic gears, and its Stanyl® PA46 has been used in actuators for more than 200 million vehicles worldwide. Such as electronic throttle control (ETC) actuators, exhaust gas recirculation system (EGR), turbines, universal actuator (GPA) actuators and variable intake systems, and successfully demonstrated its reliable performance and cost-effectiveness. Using Stanyl® PA46 instead of metal in gears can save more than 40%; Stanyl® PA46 is only one-seventh the density of steel. A complete gear set made of Stanyl® PA46 weighs only metal gears. The group's 40-60%; and its noise and carbon emissions are also lower, for a mid-size car, the use of Stanyl® PA46 instead of metal to make gears, can reduce carbon emissions by 0.06 grams per kilometer.

Stanyl® PA46 provides superior wear and tear performance, especially in high temperature and dry friction, reducing wear and tear up to 50% compared to high performance materials such as PPA, PEEK, PA66, thus greatly improving gear durability . When used in the gears of the motor management actuators, the life of the gears can be extended to three times the standard (40 million load cycles).

High speed or high ambient temperature conditions impose extremely high temperature requirements on the gear material. POM materials are not suitable when the long-term temperature is higher than 100 ° C or the short-term temperature is higher than 140 ° C. Compared to POM, Stanyl® PA46 has better temperature resistance and is especially suitable for high temperature applications such as intercooled integrated electronic throttles.

The material selection and design of the gear is inseparable. DSM's professional technical team not only has solid material experience, but also accumulated rich experience in gear design. In addition to providing innovative materials solutions for gear manufacturers, it can also be used in gear structural design, mold design and production process. Provide comprehensive technical support in areas such as optimization.

In addition to Stanyl® PA46, DSM also has a wide range of material options to provide a complete material solution for the friction pair of the gears, as well as a wide range of PBT, PA, PPS and other materials suitable for the manufacture of actuator housings.
