LARAMID化合物基于PPA纯树脂，一种芳族酸取代了脂肪酸的半芳香族聚酰胺。
开发LARAMID化合物是为了获得比传统的脂肪族聚酰胺（PA 6和PA 66）更高的性能。
基于具有半结晶结构的聚合物，LARAMID材料具有突出的热性能和机械性能。它们可以被认为是标准工程热塑性塑料和高性能塑料之间的桥梁，但具有很高的性价比。LARAMID的特点是吸水性低于脂肪族PA，可以实现模塑制品的更好的性能：更高的尺寸稳定性，以及在运行周期中潮湿环境条件下具有更高的机械性能。纯树脂的高熔融温度提高了短期热阻。
