LASULF® PSU

POLYSULPHONE (PSU)

LASULF compounds are based on PSU, a translucent yellow, amorphous resin. The presence of diphenyl-sulphide groups in the polymeric chain improves the thermal properties and resistance to oxidation.

Main properties

· High mechanical properties;

· Excellent resistance to creep, even at high temperature;

· Toughness, event at low temperature;

· Good thermal properties (high C.U.T. and HDT values);

· Low flammability and toxic smoke emission;

· Excellent hydrolysis resistance;

· Good sterilisation cycles resistance;

· Low shrinkage levels;

· High dimensional stability.

Notes
LASULF compounds are suitable for applications in contact with hot water, thanks to high hydrolysis resistance. Besides, products are infrared and microwave resistant. The base resin is inherently flame-retardant at a good level without specific additives.

Reinforced grades
Glass fibres reinforced versions provide high stiffness and excellent dimensional stability. High thermal resistance guarantees mechanical and creep resistance even at high temperature: in fact, the continuous use temperature without load is up to 160°C (190°C for short period of time).

Self-lubricating grades
Family products with better self-lubricating properties are available by adding substances able to improve the tribological properties of the material. These grades are suitable for plastic-metal or plastic-plastic contact applications. Compounds able to fulfil specific requirements concerning wear resistance and friction factor can also be formulated. For more information, please check LATILUB grades.

Moulding
Cracking or long-term rupture due to internal residual stresses can be found. In order to prevent or reduce such phenomena, careful part design and correct moulding are required. Eventually, annealing parts at 165°C (1 hour per mm of wall thickness) allows reducing residual stresses.
